Online Texas CD Rates

On the banking slate today is On-line CD Rates in TX. Texas is a the big state, so does that mean ginormous CD interest rates. I've been told the steer are as bug as houses and the Jackolopes are the size of buses. Okay enough of the big jokes. Let's get down to Texas CD rate business.

USAA Federal Savings Bank - San Antonio, TX (FDIC# 32188)
USAA was founded in 1983. They are a Texas sized bank with $37.9 Billion in assets. They have a good profit. Maybe some Texas pride will help the deposit rates. USAA FSB has a 5-Year CD at 3.00% APY and a 7-year at 3.65% APY. I wouldn't look at these unless they have a 3-month or 6-month early withdrawal penalty. They have a 4-year Super Jumbo IRA at 3.00% APY. With Fed funds at practically 0%, that is pretty good. USAA use to be only open to the military and theif families, but they have opened the bank up to all.

Comerica Bank - Dallas, TX (FDIC# 983)
Look at that FDIC#. On March 5, 1849. Comerica was founded.. That is old. Originally known as The Detroit Bank and Trust company. In 1982 they changed the name Comerica Bank-detroit (Yep, with a lower-case "d"). Next they gobbled up about every bank in Michigan. By 1991, they took off "-detroit". Comerica continued to swallow banks in MI,CA, FL, and TX. Comerica Bank moved their base operations to TX in 2007. They are big with $59.1 Billion in assets. Bauer gives them a 4-star rating. After all of that, they don't post their CD rates on-line. Their highest rate is on the 5-year CD at 1.75% APY. Doesn't look like the place to open a certificate of deposit.

Woodforest National Bank - Houston, TX (FDIC# 23220)
That is a very unique bank name. I like it. Better than the umpteen thousands of First National Banks. They have about $3.2 BB in assets. They have a nice profit and good ratios. Bauer gives them the coveted 5-star rating. They were established in 1980. As good as their ratings are, their yields are not. 3-year CD at 1.60% APY and a 5-year at 2.25%. They do offer IRAs, when many banks don't.

Texas Country Bank - Lakeway, TX (FDIC# 58083)
This bank seems to know what is is about. You're in Texas Country.  They are somewhat new to TX, but have some decent rates.  They were founded in 2005.  They seem to be the size of nice community bank with about $79 Million in assets.  You may be able to negotiate higher rates.  The posted 1-Year is 1.35% APY and the 2-year CD is 1.75%.

TX seems to have some solid banks. CD Interest Rates aren't the best, but not the worst either. As with many CD searches, if you are willing to look outside your state, you can often find better yields.
